Spoon tested the stock FL5 extensively — track, winding roads, and city streets in Japan — and found an aggressive factory suspension setup with high roll rigidity, but roll that initiated with a slight delay on track, making it harder to trace the ideal cornering line at entry. On the street, the ride was a bit harsh. The goal was clear: progressive springs that trace the ideal line on track while staying comfortable on the street.

Spring rate goes up 10% over stock for sharper performance driving, with more rebound stroke secured for better compliance over road gaps. Installation drops the car about 20mm for a lower center of gravity. To improve comfort, Spoon extended the coil length to lower the load required to initiate spring response, fine-tuned through an irregular-pitch, barrel-shaped cross-section. That lower initiation load improves street ride comfort, while the progressive rate still delivers traction at higher speeds and spirited driving.
