HEL Performance have pulled out all the stops when developing their carbon fiber brake pad shims. They've used the finest carbon fiber, combined with an exclusive resin which is non-combustible and thermally resistant to temperatures over 400°C (752°F). This special resin cures an attractive yellow or orange depending on the batch.
These don't just look the part though: initial testing carried out by a professional racing driver in various road and track conditions showed a huge average temperature drop of 49°C (120.2°F) on the front calipers.
Anything that helps reduce the temperature and increase efficiency of brake components is a good thing, especially as caliper seals are at risk of being damaged when they get too hot.
Installing these carbon fiber brake pad shims will certainly inspire confidence that when you brake aggressively, all the components are being kept cool and working at their best.
You can also re-use the shims when changing pads, as long as they're in a good condition.

I purchased the HEL brake shims for both the front and rear of my DE5. The material quality is excellent — solid construction and clearly well-made. I’m currently running EBC RP-X pads up front and EBC Bluestuff pads in the rear.
Installation on the front was quick and easy, no issues at all. However, the rear shims were a completely different story. The holes on the shim didn’t line up with the backing plate holes on the EBC rear pads, as shown in the photos. I ended up drilling new holes just to get them to fit, and even then, the fitment wasn’t ideal.
Maybe these rear shims would work fine with OEM pads, but they’re definitely not compatible with EBC Bluestuff without modification. In the end, I’d give these a solid 5 stars for the front fitment — but only 1 star for the rear. So overall, I’m rating this product 3 stars. Highly recommend for the front, but skip the rear if you’re running aftermarket pads.
