EBC's fully-floating 2-piece design lets the cast iron friction ring expand and contract up to 3mm under hard braking heat, rather than fighting against a rigid one-piece disc. The outer ring is cast from high-copper, high-carbon G3500 alloy; the bells are precision-machined aerospace-grade aluminum, hard anodized for durability. EBC's patented SD-Drive bobbins, machined from a single piece of stainless steel, let the ring float freely for years without corrosion locking it up — and anti-rattle spring clips at each bobbin location mean these stay genuinely silent, unlike a lot of 2-piece race disc setups that develop an annoying off-brake rattle.

The lighter unsprung rotational mass sharpens turn-in and tire road holding while even nudging fuel economy and wheel-measured power. When the friction ring eventually wears, only the outer ring needs replacing — the center hub and stainless bobbins are reusable, which keeps long-term running costs down compared to replacing a full one-piece disc every time.
