RV6 spent almost two years and three revisions developing the R660 RED with one goal: a turbo that's genuinely robust past 400 hp, not just quick. The stock TD04 housing is great for a compact, responsive factory turbo, but pushing serious power through it shortens its life fast. RV6 built the R660 around a TD05 bearing housing instead — roughly twice the size of the TD04 — which allowed for a full-size 8mm ceramic ball bearing for quicker spool and higher thrust load capacity, paired with oversized coolant passages and -10AN lines to keep everything cool under sustained boost.

The larger housing also allowed for a 0.81 A/R turbine housing, which meaningfully cuts backpressure between the turbo and engine and addresses the boost instability and overheating that smaller housings struggle with. The compressor wheel is a lightweight, point-milled forged billet design with FEA-optimized blade geometry, while the turbine wheel and shaft use MAR-M super alloy — a significant step up from the Inconel most OE turbos use, chosen specifically for the higher temperatures and loads this turbo will see.
