This plate covers the timing chain tensioner on the timing cover. The factory plate is a thin piece of stamped steel sealed with RTV — it's very easy to accidentally bend when removing it, and it has to come off to access the timing chain tensioner.

Wunderladen's plate is machined from billet aluminum and uses a robust gasket to seal in place of RTV, making it far easier to remove and replace than the factory piece with no risk of bending it.
