_______
The factory FL5/DE5 radiator uses a plastic tank with a single-row aluminum core - solid quality, but not built for high-horsepower builds or hard driving. Turbo cars run hot, and the K20C1 is no exception, so anything that keeps temperatures in check pays off in engine longevity.
CSF's radiator uses the same 5mm fin technology as their HPD Race Radiator - smaller fins mean more heat exchange surface area. A larger 2-row 42mm aluminum core (vs. 28mm OEM) increases fluid capacity, and CSF's exclusive B-Tube technology increases heat transfer roughly 15% over standard oval welded tubes. Testing showed a 6-8% drop in coolant temperature versus the factory radiator. It's 100% TIG-welded aluminum construction (vs. OEM's crimp-on plastic tank) and mounts in the factory location with no cutting or modification.
Real-world testing on a 294 whp FL5 with an upgraded front-mount intercooler - which raises coolant temps roughly 7% due to airflow restriction over the radiator - showed an 8°C drop in coolant temperature with the CSF radiator installed. If you're running a larger FMIC or tracking your car, this upgrade matters.
CSF vs. OEM
- Core rows: 2 (vs. 1 OEM)
- Core thickness: 42mm (vs. 28mm OEM)
- Tank material: Aluminum (vs. plastic OEM)
- Construction: 100% TIG welded (vs. crimp-on gasket OEM)
- 6-8% lower coolant temps in testing
